LOCATION
The only town on the seven by three mile island is the town of Vinalhaven, where you can walk into town for an ice cream cone, or drive to one of the many National Preserves for a hike.
Get accustomed to a reduced speed limit of twenty-five miles an hour and friendly locals waving from their cars as you pass them. You will feel like time has brought you back to the 1950's, where we all felt safe and relaxed and enjoyed life at a slower pace.
From Vinalhaven Maine take a quick three minute motor boat ride to the tranquil town of North Haven to enjoy pristine golf course or ride your bike and catch different scenery or do some shopping.
Embark on a cruise or sail around Vinalhaven and make your way along the rocky ocean shoreline. Hike along the waters edge; discover lost treasures of the ocean: lobster crates, buoys, drift wood and more.
Rise early in the morning and take in a conversation with local lobstermen before they go out to sea.
Stroll along in the small town of Vinalhaven Maine and discover famous local artist studios or pop in to one of the many different art galleries. Visit the Vinalhaven Historical Society Museum.
If you are a serious 'art buff' leave time after your ferry boat back to the mainland to travel to Rockland, Maine. You will find it to be full of culture, including the world-renowned Andrew Wyeth Gallery, located on the campus of the Farnsworth Museum.
